NOT COMPATIBLE WITH GU3
City maps for Ahgram, Khal and New Targonor are now a part of the Map Pack.
The city maps where inspired by a very inspired idea from Mother9987 over at VGinterface.com
Download below screenshots.
What is the Map Pack?
The map pack is a map mod offering the player detailed maps to aid them in their journey.
The map started out as a very basic map but is constantly being updated when changes/mistakes/etc are found.
I am now working together with Soresha to produce the InfoMap.
The goal of the infomap is to eventually produce a map mod with marker layers that can be turned on and off at the players leisure.
The InfoMap project will use the maps from the Map Pack.
Some screenshots:

Download:
http://www.ancientorder.org/Downloads/mappack/CobalMapVG0.7C.zip
Installation instructions:
The Map Pack can be installed as stand alone mod or can be installed into a UI mod you allready have installed.
Installing as stand alone mod
- Unzip the file and copy the "map" folder into \Vanguard\VGUIAssets\Shells\
For example, into: C:\Program Files\Vanguard\VGUIAssets\Shells\
- Find "VGclient.ini" in C:\Program Files\Vanguard\bin
- Open it and find the following line:
ShellName=Default
Change it to this:
ShellName=Map
- Safe the file and close it
- Play the game
Installing into other UI mods
- Unzip the file and copy the "map" folder into \Vanguard\VGUIAssets\Shells\[Your UI]
For example, into: C:\Program Files\Vanguard\VGUIAssets\Shells\Boxed
- Play the game.
Users of version 0.7b read this, It's Important!
This does not apply to stand alone users of version 0.7b
For the installation of version 0.7b I asked you to add a line in Skininfo.xml of your existing UI mod.
It turns out that this is a very clumsy way of handeling it, the new 0.7c version does not require this line.
Please remove this line.
To remove the line do the following:
- Find the "Skininfo.xml" Of your UI MOD, you will find it in in \Vanguard\VGUIAssets\Shells\[NameOfUImod]
For example, if you have the Boxed UI you find it in C:\Program Files\Vanguard\VGUIAssets\Shells\Boxed (if you installed vanguard into C:\Program Files\ that is)
- Open it and find the following line:
<AnimationDefinition filename="CityMapSkin.xml"/>
- Delete it.
- Here follows a before and after situation as example:
- Before:
<AnimationDefinitions directory="Map">
<AnimationDefinition filename="MapSkin.xml"/>
<AnimationDefinition filename="CityMapSkin.xml"/>
</AnimationDefinitions>
- After:
<AnimationDefinitions directory="Map">
<AnimationDefinition filename="MapSkin.xml"/>
</AnimationDefinitions>
- Safe the file and close it
- done

Soresha (Ysora on Gelenia server) is offering a service where you can download customized custompoi.txt files!
Simply go here: http://www.soresha.net/vgpoi/download.php and follow the directions to generate a Poi files to taste
To do list:
- Find a way to create a more userfriendly install method, if possible.
- find a way to stop the engine from adding space between map images.
- Add detail maps for more cities.
- Add detail maps for major adventure chunks.
Change Log:

0.7C
Made the map pack compliant with standards and and recent changes to the UI.
~27-8-2007

Zoom your map/minimap in to maximum so that you may see some details and navigate.
~02-7-2007

The map pack caused some background offsets around borders that looked ugly.
Set the offsets in the xml back to standard to fix that and did the offsets in the images instead.
~29-6-2007

updated the river valley chunk.
It now displays the valley and the river instead of barren highlands.
~21-06-2007
Beta 0.5
Updated a few coastlines.
~13-05-2007
Beta 0.4
Added chunk lines.
Cleaned up some weird offsets.
~01-04-2007
Beta 0.3
Added landmarks like New Targonor, Trengals Keep etc to the map.
I placed the landmarks based on the original map, no idea how accurate that is.
Checked a few spots, they were on the mark.

Fixed map offset and replaced all comments.
Map pack is now up for download again.

Mmmh, took down the download for now because I realised that for this version I removed/replaced comments from the map standard.
Since the Map Standard is basicly code from someone else that I am using I should let in THEIR comments.
If I left the download up I would be being very impolite towards whoever it is that wrote the Map Standard code.
Also, teh map pack is offset by about 50 meters to the east
Will be back up as soon as I restored this persons comment lines and fixed the offset. _________________

Waiting for an update.. =)
If I can make one suggestion, if there are going to be many many many poi's on the map, try making and using a smaller dot in the next version. Thats my only issue right now.. I have to say thank you though, I missed these maps! The new hand drawns ones bugged me to no end when they put em in.. =(
Thanks! |

Working on an update
Oddly enough the current version should include no mapmarkers at all.
But yes, when I have the marker bit figured out I would like to add more diverse markers so you can easily see what each marker represents. _________________

Updated.
Version: beta 0.3
Added landmarks like New Targonor, Trengals Keep etc to the map.
I placed the landmarks based on the original map, not totally accurate.
Checked a few spots, they were on the mark.
Detailed and more acurate maps of each location will be added as I make them. _________________

Maybe it's nice to know (heard from Cobal yesterday) that if you got the UI mod "Boxed" installed, to get Cobals map into the game it's just a matter of replacing the folder called "map" in the "boxed" folder with Cobal's folder map. Shellname in your vgclient.ini should still be "Boxed"
Shellname=Boxed
Works like a charm  _________________

Love this map! Great for dedicated crafter/harvester. Being able to see contours helps finding nodes immencely.
Only problem I have had is the pointer arrow disappears when you accept a quest, not sure if its me or the way I loaded the UI, and would love to be able to place dots or markers on the map. Such as + for mining spots and ^ for Lumberjacking and so forth. |

I'm glad you like it
I have not noticed the pointer dissapearing, I'll look into that to check if it is the map pack causing it.
You can add custom markers to your map, only at this time it can't be done ingame with the UI unfortunatly.
What you need to do search the web for "CustomPoi.txt", several sites offer downloads of these.
Place the CustomPoI.txt in your \Vanguard\bin and the UI should display new markers on the map. _________________

Updated.
Version Beta 0.4
Now has chunk lines, placed on the actual locations of the chunk line
It took me a lot longer to release a version with chunk lines then I had planned.
In part this is due to me being a lazy bum and in part it is due to some unexpected weirdness in the map.
When you view the ingame map you are presented with a text box that tells you in what chunk you are standing. It also tells you what chunk you are currently pointing at with your mouse.
Based on the idea that the chunk lines would be on the spots where the name changes on mousing over it I made a chunk grid and applied it over the maps.
I logged in test the map and ran to the nearest chunkline on the map and passed it without actually reaching a chunk line.
After I had found the real chunk line location I discovered that the chunk grid the mouse "sees" when you are mousing over it is way of from the actual location of the chunk lines.
In this pic the black lines are the actual location of the chunk lines and the red lines are about where the the bit of the UI that's responsible for mouseover events thinks the chunk lines are.
The red X is where my mouse was pointing (screenshot doesn't take the pointer) and the blue circle is around my location.
As you can see I am standing in Dahknarg chunk, the text box correctly shows this in green text.
My mouse points at the location of the red X (inside Dahknarg chunk) and the text box incorrectly tells us that I am pointing at Halgarad chunk (the white letters).
That and similair crap + the fact that I am lazy led to this simple chunk line update taking a lot of time. _________________

1st of, I LOVE this mapmod.
I was using Evearios Map Mod for a while until i stumbled into this.
1 thing I didn't like is how teh PoI Dots uses the default icons.
So I figured out how to integrate the PoI Dots from Everios map Mod with yours.
This is how you can do it if no one minds me posting it here.
(Please note I used the Mini-Green version of his map)
(I can add integration directiosn for the other versions if anyone wants it later)
I was trying to post the instructions here but somehow it wasn't doing it right usign the bbcodes and such.
So I uploaded the instructions in a .txt file in my current webhost.
You can DL the instructions I have made here: http://kilim1376.freehostingnow.com/downloads/Cobal-EveArio-Mod-Integrate.txt
If you don't feel confident in editing the VGUIMap.xml, you can DL teh edited copy here: http://kilim1376.freehostingnow.com/downloads/VGUIMap.xml (Right Clikc & Save)
(You will still need to follow some of teh instructions in the above link for the integration to work.)
If anything doesn't seem to be working right after doing what i posted, email me at kilim13 at hotmail dot com _________________ Kilim's Website |

Glad you like it
Tried it out and I have to agree, the smaller dots look better.
I think I'll do something similair to this map pack. I don't want to copy Evario's work directly though so I'll probably end up making new icons. _________________
